The Plainview Jewish Center was formed in the Fall of 1953, making it the oldest established Jewish Center in the Plainview-Old Bethpage community. A group of families, aware of the need for a focal point to attract the growing Jewish Community in Plainview, joined together to bring the center into existence.
The first religious service were held in the home of one of the founding members. Approximately six months later, we grew large enough to occupy our first building - a barn on Southern Parkway - converted into a synagogue. As our membership continued to grow, the need for expansion was recognized and our first building, which is still in use on our present site erected by our members.
Our current facilites were dedicated early in 1960, and were expanded in 1969, creating a beautiful sanctuary and social hall.
The Plainview Jewish Center maintains a full schedule of daily, Sabbath and Hoilday services throughout the year. Our worship seeks a balance of devotion and a decorum of dignity and warmth. As a Conservative Synagogue, our prayers and ceremonies retain all of the beautifully moving and nostalgic traditions of our faith.
