Rabbi Steven Conn

Rabbi Steven Conn has been the spiritual leader at the Plainview Jewish Center since August 2009. He is only the fifth rabbi to serve PJC during its more than 60 year history. Rabbi Conn has helped bring a renewed vitality to our congregation. Since his arrival, he has been instrumental in creating many new and exciting programs at PJC, including the J-Flex Program for teens, a monthly Lunch and Learn, a congregational trip to Israel, the Mishpacha Friday night service, a Friday night Shabbat Alive Klezmer service, Musical Tot Shabbat and the High Holiday Service for Families with Young Children.

In addition to providing solid spiritual leadership, Rabbi Conn has a strong background as an educational leader for both children and adults. He can often be found leading daily minyan, officiating at religious services or life cycle events, or teaching in the religious school, Hebrew High School or adult education programs.

He is easily approachable, and his empathetic nature, attentiveness and display of warmth benefit his pastoral counseling. He takes a personal interest in each member and tries to know every member by name. Rabbi Conn is driven by his passion to inspire and engage his congregants, and create a warm and friendly environment in his synagogue. He is always there to provide a sympathetic presence, a listening ear or just a smile and kind word.

Rabbi Conn, originally from West Bloomfield, Michigan is married to Illyse Zesch Conn and has three children; Zoe, Dalya and Yoni, who attends the Solomon Schecter Lower School in Jericho. Rabbi Conn’s hobbies include cooking, gardening, rooting for the Pistons and the Tigers, his hometown teams, and enjoys daily walks.
